VoLTE: What is it?

VoLTE is the expression given for voice calls over LTE network. Here is everything you need to know about VoLTE: the explanation, how beneficial it is and its possible limitations.

VoLTE for better calls

Usually, 2G or 3G connections are used for voice calls, while 4G connection is used for streaming videos or browsing the Internet. The concept isn’t wrong but 4G can be also used to have better voice calls. VoLTE scheme is exactly for that purpose: it stands for voice calls using 4G LTE network. The scheme greatly boosts up the quality and experience of the calls since 3 times more data can be transferred by using 4GB  than by using 3GB.
In addition to this, by using it you will have better and faster connectivity and wider mobile coverage than when you use 3GB.  The scheme uses 800MHz spectrum, which is bigger than the spectrum of 2GB or 3GB, and, thus, you can receiver stronger signals. Theoretically, this scheme can also make video calls possible since it can transfer so much more data and support faster connection.volte scheme
One of the possible limitations of this scheme is the fact that it only works when both sides of the voice call are using VoLTE. Therefore, a user will have to be mindful of who to contact using this scheme because it isn’t widely used yet. In addition to that, both parties need to have 4G coverage in order to keep the call stable and without disruptions.

VoLTE needs to be used more widely to better appreciate its benefits

This data-only networking technology, needs to be used more widely in order to really see and experience the benefits. At the moment, different networks are slowly but surely upgrading their voice call infrastructure, so we will see more networks and devices that will support voice over 4G LTE.
